Saddle Fitting

Saddle Fitting

Have you ever walked in shoes that were too small or too big? If so, you know how painful and miserable poorly fitting shoes can make you feel - let alone how hard it is to walk in them. You can't wait to get out of those shoes!

It's the same for saddle fit for your horse. When the saddle fits correctly, your horse is relaxed and willing. You sit on your horse with ease instead of struggling to find a spot that allows you to relax and stay in balance. Your saddle doesn't interfere with how your horse receives your aids and it does not cause discomfort.

When the saddle doesn't fit you, you fight to stay in balance and often you are sore when you are finished riding. (Much like the poorly fitting shoes.)

When the saddle doesn't fit your horse, it hurts! He tries to tell you that he cannot do the task you ask for through resistance. This is often misinterpreted as a poor attitude or lack of willingness. Often, poor performance is simply due to discomfort caused by a poorly fitting saddle.

To keep both horse and rider comfortable, saddle fit should be checked annually. Changes in work, health or fitness might demand additional checks by a trained saddle fitter. A comfortable, healthy, happy horse results in a comfortable, happy rider!

I am a certified saddle fitter for English saddles (dressage & jump).  IN addition, I have attended factory trainings for all the brands I carry - Albion, Amerigo, Black Country, Custom, Prestige & Stubben.
